Open Research Award for Jordan and FERG!

Jordan was awarded the 2023 Newcastle University Open Research Award! These awards are available annually and are awarded to people at Newcastle University who have used open research practices to make research more accessible, transparent or reproducible.

Jordan’s case study was based on the premise that entomological research has a particular need for increased adoption of open research practices due to the number of invertebrates killed or perturbed for this research. This forms a moral imperative to make data available for re-use and re-analysis to prevent unnecessary repetition. As well, prominent cases of malpractice through data manipulation in entomology call for increased transparency to maintain honesty and trust.

In this case study, Jordan also made clear that these open research practices will form the foundations of the Foraging Ecology Research Group. If you want to read more about that, check out our ‘Principles‘ page!
