New preprint: Spatio-temporal variation in diet among age and sex cohorts of a model generalist bird species, the great tit Parus major, revealed by DNA metabarcoding

Check out this new preprint that Jordan contributed to, led by Dr Jenny Coomes: Spatio-temporal variation in diet among age and sex cohorts of a model generalist bird species, the great tit Parus major, revealed by DNA metabarcoding

This preprint characterises the diet of the great tit, Parus major, using DNA metabarcoding and shows how its resource use changes across habitats and based on demographic traits (sex and age). Large spatiotemporal dietary variation was evident across the great tits studied, and rare species dominated their diets. The preprint discusses many of the likely drivers of dietary variation. Check out the full preprint and keep your eyes peeled for the peer-reviewed paper in the coming months!
